SMALL LOCOMOTIVES often present a challenge for sound installations, particularly when it comes to fitting in a sizeable and powerful speaker. The new Hornby BR ‘2MT’ 2-6-0 arrived in November 2023, and with its compact tender makes for a challenging installation.
With any sound installation, there are always choices. For example, we could have compromised on speaker design or decoder type to fit the components in the tender, but in this case we were looking for the best sound performance from the locomotive which led to a more complex installation route.
The decoder for the project is an ESU 8-pin LokSound V5 decoder which was supplied by Locoman Sounds with its all-new BR ‘2MT’ 2-6-0 sound profile loaded onto it.
