Grand Café

Detailing models can be a satisfying pastime and following a visit to Model World LIVE recently, DAN EVASON opts to create a realistic café interior.

HAVING BEEN inspired by all the fantastic layouts and dioramas on display at the recent Key Publishing Model World LIVE event at the NEC in Birmingham in late April, it got me thinking about details and how far in ‘OO’ I could take it.

I gave some thought to creating a fully-detailed interior for a café scene and wondered just how much detail I could install into the building to bring it to life.

After a few minutes’ searching online, I happened across a ‘OO’ gauge Scale Model Scenery laser-cut café building and a selection of complementary Modelu products. I accepted that some elements of scratchbuilding would also be required along the way, but in essence the challenge was to build a full café interior with suitable decor.

This form of super-detailing can be applied to just about any building on any layout and for any era. For illustrative purposes, I removed the end wall from the laser-cut kit, so the interior can be viewed easily and it would look great with this building to one side of the l…
