Four new resin detail sets from Czech firm CMK can provide extra authenticity for Airfix’s already delightful 1/72 Spitfire Mk.Vc.
The recent new-tool 1/72 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vc from Airfix won many plaudits on its release. It offers great value and captures the shape of this sub-type very well indeed. However, extra refinement and detail can be added via four new products by aftermarket specialist CMK.
7485 Spitfire Mk.Vc Cockpit (10.80 €)
This package (above) offers a much busier ‘office’ via 14 resin parts and nine in photo-etched brass. The latter medium provides an instrument panel facing, rudder pedals, a gun sight piece and seatbelts. The resin is extensive, as there’s a combined floor with rear bulkhead and front firewall, the seat and its mounting frame, the instrument panel, internal sidewalls, the control column, gun gas charging bottles and the access door. Printed acetate with instrument dial detail is also supplied.
7486 Spitfire Mk.Vc Wing Guns (two guns) 8.30 €
Two exquisite gun bays are available here, featuring guns, breches and ammunition in trays for the two-gun fit. Surgery on the kit wings is required to remove the requisite surface panels, but replacements in resin are provided, as well as new barrels of differing lengths
7487 Spitfire Mk.Vc Control Surfaces (8.30 €)
Vary the look of your Spitfire by adding these neatly cast items, which can be posed asymmetrically/raised/lowered. You get individual horizontal stabilisers and elevators, flaps and upper wing linings for those, and wing root fillets. Again, surgery is necessary to remove the kit’s control surfaces.
7493 Spitfire Mk.Vc Wing Guns (four guns) 8.30 €
This is similar to the two-gun package, but simply offers four guns if you wish to portray this rarer C-wing format. The only difference is the inclusion of the extra armament.
These are excellent additions for Airfix’s 1/72 Spitfire Vc, but arguably, the gun bay sets will make the biggest difference due to their greater visibility and detail. They are all available direct from CMK (www.cmkkits.com) or in the UK via Hannants mail order (www.hannants.co.uk)
