OPENS ITS DOORS TO THE PUBLIC

HORNBY HOBBIES and the One:One Collection opened the doors to its former Margate factory on the weekend of August 17/18 for the Hornby Visitor Centre One:One Collection Open Weekend.

The two-day show was hosted by Hornby and offered the first public access to the developing One:One Collection museum which uses part of the Hornby factory complex. In addition Hornby staged a model railway exhibition in the former factory buildings and visitors also had access to the recently refurbished Hornby Visitor Centre.

The One:One Collection was enhanced on the Thursday before the event with the arrival of Class 47/8 47841 Institution of Mechanical Engineers in InterCity livery which joined Gresley ‘A4’ 4-6-2 4464 Bittern, Stanier ‘Black Five’ 4-6-0 45379, a Cowans Sheldon 50ton crane, a GWR ‘Super Saloon’, a North Eastern Railway inspection saloon and Wickham trolley. Also on display were the 4-SUB and Class 503 units from the Coventry Railway Museum which are stored under cover at the site.

The model railway exhibition included displays from Hornby and Airfix plus working model railways including Amiens 1918 by Callum Wilcox, Bigbury by the City of Canterbury Model Railway Society, Hythe from Folkes…
