PROJECT UPDATE - Making Tracks: The Final Frontier

With just three weeks to go until Model World LIVE and the debut of Making Tracks: The Final Frontier on April 27/28 at the NEC in Birmingham, MIKE WILD visit Pete Waterman's workshop to catch up on the latest progress on this epic model railway build.

BUILDING Making Tracks: The Final Frontier is a huge task, and with three weeks to go until the doors open to Model World LIVE the entire Railnuts group behind this project is working harder than ever to get the layout ready for its debut on April 27/28 2024 at the NEC in Birmingham.

This huge undertaking expands on the 152ft layouts seen at the Great Electric Train Show with 100ft of new scenery which includes models of Watford Junction and Bushey stations. The total layout length for Model World LIVE will be 208ft featuring more than 250ft of scenery in total.

The team is currently working through a huge job list of tasks to get the layout ready including laying new track on storage yard extension boards, building houses, installing catenary, creating the final buildings, scenery, road details, vehicles, wiring and signals.

In our latest interview with Pete Waterman, he explains all the latest progress and what is still to be done. The layout will be making its debut at Model World LIVE on April 27/28 2024 - Pete commented: "Like they say in all good television programmes, will they make it? But of course we will make it, we promised to be there."
