Above: Best in Show was awarded to this beautifully painted Andrea 90mm Officer de Chasseur figure by Craig Spencer, who used oils and acrylics to great effect, notably on the horse’s dappled coat.

The title of this feature might sound like a cliché, but it seemed apt as this was the inaugural event held by the first Police Force club to be established in the UK and a return to shows in Birmingham after a year’s absence.

That said, the only particulars taken down on that October day were those of the builders of a superb ensemble of models, as modellers from near and far came to the West Midlands Police Scale Model Club event. Held in the Tally Ho Conference Centre, the venue featured two main exhibition halls, which were filled with a balanced array of club and trade stands, while a third acted as a handy café/connecting corridor/ chat area between the other two.
