CHRIS CLIFFORD appraises the 1/32 Clarktor 6 Mill-33 towing tug with Mk.2 Bomb Trailers by Thunder Model.
Aircraft modellers working in 1/32 scale have a splendid new product with which to enliven their builds, especially if you enjoy creating dioramas. Thunder Model’s US Tug Clarktor 6, Mill-33 with 2 Bomb Trailers Mark 2 (IT320030) follows the firm’s previous release, which was the tractor on its own. Now, as the title suggests, this adapted boxing provides two separate Mk.2 bomb trailers (with bombs) to attach to the well-detailed tractor unit.
Manufactured by US firm Clark from 1942, the Clarktor airfield tractor was used by the USAAF, RAF and other Allied air arms. Duties included towing small- to medium-sized aircraft, bomb trailers, fuel bowsers and other examples of ground-support equipment. Thunder Model’s fresh iteration makes it perfect for populating aircraft stores-loading scenes, being suitable for posing with a B-25, B-17, Lancaster or even fighters employed on ground-attack sorties – P-47 and P-51, for example.
