Transatlantic Luxury

In a change from his usual warships, Andy Davies tackles Revell’s Queen Mary 2…and has a bundle of fun in the process

Revell has provided us with no fewer than three Queen Mary 2 ocean liner kits since 2004, in 1/400, 1/700 and the diminutive 1/1200 offering seen here.

Interestingly, the tooling is also available as part of a special Revell ‘Cunard Line’ gift set along with the Queen Elizabeth 2. The model comprised four white styrene runners with 45 crisply moulded parts. Its hull was provided as a single-piece assembly, which displayed good detail that included viewing windows, portholes, loading doors, stabilizer recesses and the six circular bow-thruster doors. While the three rows of viewing windows were hollow, the portholes were represented by small indentations, but to improve their appearance they were opened with a 0.5mm microdrill. Several other windows were also drilled/opened, including those around the lower deck at the stern and several on the sides of the bridge tower.
