BUILT IN the 1950s, 172 of the Riddles-designed locomotives were completed at BR’s Derby and Doncaster Works and they operated across all BR regions. The last was withdrawn in 1968 and five have been preserved.
Bachmann’s highly-regarded BR ‘5MT’ has been in the Graham Farish range since 2011 and this latest version has been the subject of a digital upgrade, primarily to enable the manufacturer to offer factory sound-fitted models and is now offered in Digital Command Control (DCC) ready and DCC sound-fitted forms, with five different identities.
Our DCC sound-fitted review model reflects ‘5MT’ 73109 in BR lined black with early crests, paired with a BR1B tender (Cat No. 372-727ASF), which was an Eastfield based ‘5MT’ for its short working career, between 1956 and 1964.
