Can Accurascale maintain its record with these important new coaches? MARK CHIVERS checks out these latest BR Mk 2s in ‘OO’.
Accurascale’s eagerly-awaited newly-tooled ‘OO’ gauge BR Mk 2b carriages have arrived, with 23 different vehicles forming this initial batch of releases.
British Rail’s Mk 2bs were built in the late 1960s at Derby Litchurch Lane Works and were a development of the previous Mk 2a design. Amongst the improvements, they featured new wider wraparound passenger doors at each end and were slightly longer at 64ft over headstocks as they were designed to accommodate air conditioning equipment, which in the event wasn’t fitted until the Mk 2d design appeared in the early 1970s.
Above: Accurascale’s all-new ‘OO’ gauge BR Mk 2b carriages are now available, with more than 20 different vehicles modelled in the first batch.
Accurascale’s all-new ‘OO’ gauge models were first announced in 2021 (HM172). Three main BR Mk 2b vehicle types have been tooled with Tourist Standard Open (TSO), First Compartment (FK) and Brake First Compartment (BFK) coaches appearing. In addition, a Standard Compartment (SK) vehicle is also in the line-up - this prototypically utilising the FK tooling to represent these declassified carriages.
