ACCURASCALE and Irish Railway Models have unveiled plans to produce all-new British Rail (BR) Mk 2b carriages for ‘OO’ gauge, with examples in BR and Northern Ireland Railways (NIR) colour schemes.

Built at BR’s Derby Litchurch Lane Works in 1969, 111 BR Mk 2b vehicles were constructed including Tourist Standard Open (TSO), Corridor First (FK) and Brake Corridor First (BFK) designs. In addition, eight vehicles were also built for NIR in 1970 for use on its new ‘Enterprise’ service between Belfast and Dublin. These included a First Open (FO), two Brake Driving Trailer Seconds (BDTS), four Standard Opens (SO) and a single Grill-Bar catering vehicle. In 1980, five former BR Mk 2b BFKs were also acquired for conversion to generator vehicles (BGV) to provide Electric Train Supply to the ‘Enterprise’ service following a change of motive power, along with further second-hand Mk 2b and Mk 2c coaches.
