1/32 COBRA MARKINGS FROM ASK

ICM’s 1/32 AH-1G is a great kit and was always going to attract the attention of aftermarket decal producers. Czech firm Art Scale Kit duly answered the call and has released various relevant decal sheets. One of those is item D32-011, Bell AH-1G Cobra 3rd Aviation Helicopter Cavalry Part 1. It provides markings for two different Vietnam War AH-1Gs, in Olive Drab and Dark Olive Drab but with black accents along the upper tail boom, gun turret, engine panels and – on one airframe – around the cockpit. Both have large and impressive sharkmouth artwork. The machines are:

•    68-15135 THE KANSAS KILLER/CALIFORNIA DREAMIN’, Sgt Don Vaughan, Capt Rudy Parris, F Troop, 3rd Aviation Cavalry Division, US Army, Hue-Phau Bai, 1971
•    67-15652 NIXON’8 NIRED GUN, FP 5 Linford E Rineker, F Troop, 3rd Aviation Cavalry Division, US Army, 1972

The decals are well printed, having gloss carrier film and strong colour tones.  A full array of stencilling is also provided, along with colour profile artwork and several small photos of both helicopters on the instructions.

This is a great item if you have (or are considering buying) ICM’s 1/32 Cobra, but ASK has various other Vietnam War sheets for the kit too. This particular sheet costs €12 and is available direct from ASK, but also in the UK via Hannants.
