Bachmann has delivered its latest newly-tooled ‘OO’ gauge wagon in the MXA ‘Lobster’. MARK CHIVERS takes a closer look at this colourful addition to the range.
Bachmann's newly-tooled and brightly coloured ‘OO’ gauge MXA ‘Lobster’ bogie open box wagon has touched down in the Hornby Magazine office.
These recently-converted wagons were developed by Axiom Rail in Stoke-on-Trent and introduced between 2015 and 2017 for use on infrastructure duties. More than 200 examples have been converted from former BDA and BEA bogie bolster wagons, incorporating much of the original underframe with a newly-built open box secured to the frame. In keeping with tradition, the vehicles have received a ‘fishkind’ moniker applied to engineers’ vehicles – ‘Lobster’ in this case – following a competition to choose an appropriate name.
