There’s a new Fulcrum in town and it’s brimming with detail as CHRIS CLIFFORD discovers
A popular Soviet-designed fourth generation fighter with global air arms and modellers alike, the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum has received much attention from kit manufacturers. Early efforts in 1/72 were made by Airfix/Heller (1990) and ESCI (1988), while much more modern replicas have been produced by Trumpeter and Zvezda… others in between (and many of them) are incorrect in places. Now, though, Great Wall Hobby has issued a brand-new MiG-29 9-12 Fulcrum-A Late Type (L7212) and it’s arguably the best in the scale from the get-go, an accolade this company’s 1/48 Fulcrum secured on its own release.
Above: A veritable feast of fine moulding is evident on the upper fuselage half, which has sections of runner protecting the delicate static wicks. Whether these will survive the build process is anyone’s guess!
Above: The lower fuselage half is just as busy, especially in the undercarriage bays.
Above: A plus-point is that retraction jacks are moulded integrally on the undercarriage legs, rather than being individual items.
