Footplate Models has revealed a decorated sample of its exclusive commission of Dapol’s forthcoming all-new ‘OO’ gauge Hawthorn Leslie 0-4-0ST.
Exclusive to the Kidderminster-based retailer, this particular release models locomotive No. 3 Marston, Thompson & Evershed Ltd in the lined black colour scheme it carries in preservation at the Foxfield Railway (Cat No. 4S-024-DMB1).
Built in 1924 by Hawthorn Leslie for use at Marston’s brewery in Burton on Trent, No. 3 remained in service until the mid-1950s, when it was stood down and became a spare locomotive to its replacement. Following a move to the Foxfield Railway in the late 1960s, No. 3 was restored to working order in 2021.
Now at an advanced stage of development, Dapol’s newly-tooled models will feature a die-cast compensated chassis, die-cast saddle tanks, five-pole skew-wound motor, all-wheel pick-up and Next18 Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket. Nine general release models are planned from Dapol in addition to the exclusive Footplate Models release.
Unveiled on the running plate of the full-size locomotive at the Foxfield Railway, Footplate’s exclusive model of No. 3 Marston, Thompson & Evershed Ltd is available to order now, priced at £117 DCC ready and £152 DCC fitted.
