GAUGE ‘O’ models are arriving in the Hornby Magazine office for review more and more regularly and that pace of delivery continues every year. Heljan is already well versed in all things Derby Type 2 having previously released its model of the Class 25/1 in ‘O’ gauge. However, the new Class 25/3 is quite different on the outside as it models the final iteration of the fleet of 327 locomotives with a revised cab layout, grilles moved to cantrail level and changes to the underframe design on the outside
The first of the Class 25/3s were delivered in 1965 with 79 being completed over a two-year period by BR at Derby Works and Beyer, Peacock in Manchester. They were outwardly similar to the Class 25/2s built between 1963 and 1966, but also had detail differences in their generator and were the first of the design to use solid state electronics for their control system.
