Making Tracks 3 is the most ambitious layout Pete Waterman and the Railnuts group have built yet and there are just six months to go until its debut in Chester Cathedral. CHRIS CLENTON brings the story up to date with a new update from the Making Tracks 3 workshop.
BUILDING A SCALE model of Milton Keynes station is no mean feat - and its even more challenging to make such an ambitious project come together in under 12 months. But that is exactly what Pete Waterman and the Railnuts team are doing. At this point summer seems a long way away, but the team have now stepped up a gear to meet twice a week to ensure that this massive new model railway is completed in time for the July 26 opening day in Chester.
The first phase of the project has been focused on ensuring this 'OO' gauge layout shape and size are correct. We've looked at google maps to give us an accurate layout of the station and then used AnyRail software to create a full scale plan to work from. The scale plan has been immensely useful to understand where we need to compromise and condense features whilst maintaining the overall look and feel of the station. We were also able to use the plan at the Warley show to explain to visitors what we are planning.
