REVAMPED CLASS 37/0 FOR ’O’ GAUGE

Heljan has been making the most of its back catalogue during 2020 with re-releases of its ‘Hymek’ and ‘Deltic’ which have now been followed by the original split headcode Class 37s. MIKE WILD inspects one of the five new versions arriving this summer.

Heljan ‘O’ gauge Class 37/0 is being offered in BR ‘large logo’ blue for the first time, modelling 37116 Comet.

THE CLASS 37 is the perfect all-rounder. Introduced in 1960, they were maids of all work. The first batches featured distinctive split headcode boxes either side of central nose end communication doors - a style which was common at the time and helped the first of the series to stand out from later production batches.

Ready-to-run models of the Class 37s have long been a popular choice both with manufacturers and modellers - their popularity knows no bounds, just like their versatility on the real railway. Heljan has now produced three different types of Class 37. The split headcode version was first released in 2008 and it was followed by models of the centre headcode Class 37/0 in 2017 and the Class 37/4 in 2019.
