REVELL’S NEW 1/24 ‘NEUNELFER’

Car modellers will be keen to learn that Revell is soon releasing a fresh Porsche 911 kit…

REVELL’S ALL-NEW 1/24 ‘NEUNELFER’

After a quiet start to 2021, Revell is upping the ante for the latter half, with new toolings of aircraft and sci-fi subjects leading the way… now joined by a splendid-looking 1/24 Porsche 911 Targa.

This open-top version of Porsche’s classic sports car (kit 07689) is due for release in  late October 2021 and will join the same firm’s coupé offering (07688), released in September 2021. With 11 styrene runners – including one frame dedicated to the type’s horizontally opposed flat-six engine – and four vinyl tyres, there’s plenty to savour. While the test-shot seen by keymodelworld.com had all parts moulded in grey styrene, production examples will feature pre-coloured items, notably the bodyshell and associated fixtures (bonnet, bumpers and trim), with the engine frame finished in a metallic tone.

Above: The one-piece bodyshell is moulded beautifully, with the minimal seams positioned cleverly along edges where they will be easy to sand without damaging the smooth surrounds.

Revell appears to be aiming this product at a broad community – everyone from die-hard car buffs to those modellers simply wanting a Porsche of their own, even if it’s a lot smaller than the real thing! As such, the parts count is arguably lower expected, while still offering choices for moveable wheels, left- or right-hand drive and an open/closed bonnet. Note, though that the doors are moulded shut and while the instructions suggest the targa-top ought to be attached, it should be simple to omit this component and leave the interior on full display; there’s also an option for open/closed side windows.

Above and below: The well-appointed flat-six powerplant can be displayed via the separate engine cover, while the vent openings for the air conditioning system are commendably flash-free.

Other highlights include the superbly detailed single-piece door cards and alternative dashboards – the latter benefit from individual dial decals, enlivening the interior considerably. Arguably, there’s just a single element missing from this kit (as with most other offerings in this scale) – seat belts, but will almost certainly be available from aftermarket companies.

Priced at just €32.99, Revell’s Porsche 911 Targa is likely to be popular with modellers; more on this and other Revell releases is at: www.carrera-revell.com
