AIRFIX’S MODERN ‘JUMP JET’ RETURNS

The then new-tool 1/72 Harrier GR.7A/GR.9 released in 2011 by Airfix has been reissued with new decals.

AIRFIX’S MODERN ‘JUMP JET’ RETURNS

Airfix’s GR.7A/GR.9 kit scored highly with many Harrier fans on its initial release, for its accuracy as well as clever design elements. These included a choice of leading-edge root extensions, and optional intake parts to depict the relevant auxiliary air doors open when on the ground. It also offered stores such as the CRV-7 rocket pod, Digital Joint Reconnaissance Pod and even BOL-style Sidewinder launch rails.

It now gets its first reissue since the original 2011 launch, and provides new decals for two colour schemes – the late overall Medium Sea Grey, and earlier two-tone Dark Sea Grey and Camouflage Grey. They are:

•    GR.9, ZG857/EB-Z, 41 Squadron, as seen at RAF Cottesmore, Rutland, December 15, 2010
•    GR.7A, ZD437/49A Michelle, Harrier Detachment, Operation Herrick, Kandahar, Afghanistan, November 2006

Besides the stores and features already mentioned, the kit offers separate ailerons and flaps, weighted-effect tyres, a Sniper targeting pod, multi-position airbrake and moulded instrument panel/side console detail. It costs £23.99 direct from the Airfix website or official stockists.
