Rapido Trains UK has unveiled plans for a selection of all-new South Eastern & Chatham Railway (SECR) open wagons for ‘OO’ gauge.

Three different wagons are planned including a seven plank open, built to what became Southern Railway (SR) Diagram 1355 and two similar five-plank opens (often referred to as rebuilds), using the same underframe as the seven-plank vehicles to SR Diagrams 1347 and 1349. All survived into the British Railways era, with most five-plank wagons withdrawn during the 1960s, although some seven-planks remained into the 1970s.

Designed in the UK, development of the new wagons is at an advanced stage with Engineering Prototype samples of each currently being assessed by the team.

Key detail variations have been incorporated into the tooling suite including sheet rails for the SECR and SR seven-plank wagons and two different buffer styles for the five-plank vehicles, while all models will feature detailed underframes, separately applied parts, metal bearing cups and small tension lock couplings in NEM pockets. Liveries planned included SECR, SR and BR colour schemes.
