New Hornby BR ‘9F’
for ‘OO’ takes shape
HORNBY has updated progress on its all new ‘OO’ gauge BR Standard ‘9F’ 2-10-0, sharing development drawings of the forthcoming heavy freight steam locomotive.
Announced as part of the Hornby 2021 catalogue range launch (HM164), this all-new model is being produced from new to ensure it reflects the latest manufacturing capabilities. Currently at the early CAD stage, three models will appear initially as 92167 in BR black with early crests (Cat No. R3986), 92194 in BR black with late crests (R3987) and the National Collection’s 92220 Evening Star in BR lined green with late crests (R3988).
Hornby’s tooling suite will enable most variants of the 251 ‘9Fs’ to be produced, with differences such as single and double chimneys, representation of the mechanical stoker in the cab of 92167 and more, while five new tenders are also being developed – each of the three initial 2021 releases will feature a different tender – with BR1b (4,725gallon), BR1c (4,725gallon), BR1f (5,625gallon), BR1g (5,000gallon) and BR1k (4,325gallon) examples being tooled. CAD drawings of each variant demonstrate the level of detail being afforded to this all-new model of BR’s ‘9F’.
The specification also includes a five-pole motor, 8-pin Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder socket and small tension lock couplings in NEM pockets.
Prices are set at £209.99, with delivery planned towards the end of 2021.
