NUNU RACERS

Japanese firm Hobby NuNu’s latest 1/24 auto releases include a return of its Volvo 240 Turbo and a new tooling in the shape of a BMW 320i (E46) tourer.

The former (PN24013) has unchanged parts from the original 2017 offering, with new decals to depict the winner of the 1986 European Touring Car Championship race at Hockenheim, driven by Thomas Lindström and Johnny Cecotto. Helpfully, the two sheets also provide all of the Volvo racing team trim and black edging for the front and rear windscreens, which should ease painting. There are just five styrene runners in the kit, allowing for a kerbside model to be built.

Similarly, the firm’s latest new tooling, a strikingly adorned red and white BMW 320i (E46) factory racer (PN24007) is equally impressive. With ten styrene runners (including a frame for transparent parts) and a separate body shell, it’s arguably a more complex offering than the Volvo, but also builds into a kerbside model. Modellers seeking greater detail will find the firm’s bespoke upgrade set of interest (NE24005 – see Accessories, p.103, Apr 2021), but this is a convincing miniature straight from the box. Decals are supplied for the BMW Dealer Racing Team’s #9 and #10, with the former winning the Dutch Touring Car Championship Super Production category in 2001.
