Fans of twin-props will welcome Revell’s second re-release of ICM’s 1/48 Beechcraft Model 18. CHRIS CLIFFORD investigates.
Ukrainian kitmaker ICM first released its 1/48 Beechcraft in 2014, as a C-45F/UC-45F, and six different versions followed, plus another repackaging by Revell. That company has now returned the kit to market with fresh decals, as a Beechcraft Model 18 with military and civilian schemes (item 03811).
If you’re unfamiliar with this product, it’s splendid… although arguably not as sharply detailed as ICM’s kits released more recently. There’s plenty to savour, though, including fine panel line engraving throughout. Two full-span wing halves have integrally moulded engine/undercarriage nacelles, the passenger area has a full array of seating and the cockpit is busy enough. The instrument panel has good bezel/dial detail, separate rudder pedals mounting on its lower frame, plus two-piece control column units.
