Revolution Trains PCA

Revolution Trains’ newly-tooled ‘OO’ gauge PCA alumina tank wagons have arrived, offering a new option for modern era modellers. BEN CHURCH takes a closer look at these distinctive new vehicles.

Revolution Trains’ eagerly-awaited newly-tooled ‘OO’ gauge PCA alumina powder tank wagons are here.

Built in 1988 for British Aluminium Alcan by Powell Duffryn, 43 PC020A air-discharged powder tank wagons were constructed for use in transporting block trains of imported aluminium from Blyth bulk terminal in Northumberland to Lochaber smelter near Fort William in Scotland. They remain in regular use today on GB Railfreight workings along the picturesque West Highland line. They were famously hauled in 2011 by Class 55 ‘Deltic’ 55022 Royal Scots Grey when it was hired to cover for a motive power shortage.

Revolution Trains has produced these all-new ‘OO’ gauge wagons in conditions and liveries representing each of the predominantly grey schemes they have carried since introduction. They are available in Alcan original and Alcan de-branded form with ladders, along with Rio Tinto Alcan, Lochaber/Liberty and Alvance liveries without ladders.
