UPGRADED SULZER ‘24’

The SLW Class 24 was highly regarded when it first arrived in 2016 (HM111), but now it has been given a makeover to enhance its details and make its sound file more user friendly. MIKE WILD takes a closer look at the latest additions to the portfolio.

RECEIVING A SUTTON’S Locomotive Works’ ‘high definition’ model is something of an event. Each is delivered in a paper-wrapped metal foam-lined tin with the model fixed to a plinth.

In this case, the model is the latest Class 24 in 4mm scale – a term I use because it can be specified with ‘OO’, ‘EM’ or ‘P4’ gauge wheelsets.

We first reviewed the SLW Class 24 in 2016, but plenty has changed since then and numerous further versions have been produced.

SLW says nine productions have now sold out and seven other locomotives are currently available with three more on the way. Current options cover Eastern Region two-tone green, BR green with small yellow warning panels, Scottish Region BR blue, Railway Technical Centre (RTC) livery and the more obscure BR blue with small yellow warning panels.
