SLW Class 24s

Above: A trio of SLW Class 24s dominate at Topley Dale. From left are D5021 in polyurethane blue with a coke train, 97201 with an RTC formation and D5083 in BR green with an empty steel working.

IT'S NOT EVERYDAY we get to put three brand new locomotives to the test side by side, but when the chance came with Sutton's Locomotive Works upgraded Sulzer Type 2s we jumped at it. Arriving for review were D5021 in the rare polyurethane blue with small yellow warning panels together with 97201 in its unique, for Class 24s, Railway Technical Centre (RTC) red blue. Shortly after their arrival a third landed in the office in the form of D5083 in BR green with small yellow warning panels.
