Bachmann revealed a selection of all new ‘OO’ gauge BR Mk1 coaches covering Brake Second Open (BSO)/(BSOT), First Open (FO) and Restaurant Buffet (RB) vehicles at Model World LIVE 2024 at the NEC in Birmingham.
The BR Diagram 183 BSOs were constructed from 1955 with 163 built initially, these being joined by a further 18 in 1963 with an internal door splitting the seating bays to create a non-smoking area. From 1980 to 1981, 18 BSOs were converted into Brake Second Open Trolley micro buffets (BSOT) with the toilet being converted into a store and the first bay of seating converted into a counter.
128 FOs were built at Doncaster, York and the Birmingham Carriage and Wagon Company, while the Diagram 24 Restaurant Buffet provided a kitchen and a pantry along with a service bar and seats for 23 passengers. 128 RBs were built between 1960 and 1962.
All three coach types are new to the Bachmann 'OO' gauge range and join the extensive line-up of BR Mk1 coaches available from the manufacturer. The models will feature flush glazing, extensive roof, end and interior detail, separately-fitted pipework and more. Era specific details are also included with end steps being included on some models and left out on others. The three Mk 1 coaches will also use the new bogies outlined in the Spring 2024 announcements with all types of bogie - BR1, B4, B5, Commonwealth and newly added BR 2 - all featuring metal bearings and factory-fitted electrical pickups. NEM coupling pockets are housed in chassis-mounted kinematic couplings arms.
Further details of the first batch of coaches will be revealed in the Bachmann Summer 2024 announcements, due to be revealed on Wednesday May 1 2024.
