Colour for Rails exclusive Class 88

Decorated samples of Rails of Sheffield’s exclusive Dapol-produced ‘OO’ gauge Class 88 have arrived for inspection.

Ten Class 88s operate with Direct Rail Services, they are electro-diesel locomotives that can operate on the 25kV overhead catenary or on diesel through an board generator.

The new decorated samples of 88010 in Refrigerated Rail livery also provides a  first glimpse at the new Dapol Class 88 in decorated form. Further decorated samples are expected soon.

Dapol’s ‘OO’ gauge Class 88 tooling suite is comprehensive, with an extensive level of detail promised. The models are set to include much separately fitted detailing, a die-cast metal chassis, all-wheel pick-up and drive, five-pole motor, twin flywheels, interior and exterior lighting (including marker/headlights), tail lights, halo light and servo-controlled pantograph.

The model will be available Digital Command Control (DCC) Ready, DCC fitted or DCC sound-fitted. Incidentally, the DCC Ready models wont be able to make use of the halo lights or the servo-operated pantograph: the pantograph will be posable in DC mode however. The model is equipped with a PluX22 DCC socket.

Currently scheduled for release during the third quarter of the year, prices are set at £199.95 for DCC Ready examples, £249.95 DCC fitted and £329.95 DCC sound-fitted. All Class 88 models are only available to order from Rails of Sheffield.
