If you’re a figure painter looking for something a little different, the 100mm 7th Royal African Regiment officer from RDG Miniatures is a fascinating option, says CHRIS CLIFFORD.
Figure modellers exploring the Napoleonic period already have a wealth of good products on the market, in various scales. But whether you’re an old hand with the subject or a novice, RDG Miniatures’ 100mm Officer, 7th Royal African Regiment is hugely appealing. Sculpted by Nello Rivieccio, it comes as a cast-resin vignette with a base and elaborate step/gate section, which adds further interest. The figure depicts a Neapolitan officer in service with the Army of the Kingdom of Naples, and is highly convincing, with strong African facial features, earrings, and a splendidly cast knee-length coat. This last item is split vertically, the seam running down the middle of the back, and it mates perfectly. A separate cape is provided, the fastening chain being cast in situ around the neck of the main component.
