Revolution Trains’ eagerly-awaited ‘N’ gauge 35ton Class A four wheel tank wagons are now available.
Developed in the late 1950s by Charles Roberts & Company Ltd for Esso and British Railways, the 35ton tank design appeared in two forms – Class A for light fuels and Class B for denser oils. The two types differed in the length of the tank barrels – the Class A was 25ft 2½in long, while the Class Bs were shorter at 22ft 6in. In terms of colour schemes, the Class A tanks were initially silver, before standardising on grey with red solebars. The Class Bs were black.
Revolution Trains first announced its intention to produce the Class A tanks for ‘N’ gauge in 2019, following release of the Class B examples the previous year. These latest releases differ from the previous wagons as they feature noticeably longer tank barrels, as per the prototypes.
